Bass Teaching

I am a very experienced, fun and friendly teacher and I teach from the very beginning of playing the bass right through to conservatoire level.

I have taught at the RCM Junior Department (2004-2012), Oakham School, Millfield, The Hall School, Eton College, but now I only teach privately in the calm of my home studio.

As a teacher, I will impart to you whatever I have in my musical arsenal to make you the player you wish to become. My lessons are tailored to the individual student because no two students learn alike and I will always try my absolute best to help you become a great and all-round fabulous bass player. You must also keep your end of the bargain by committing to practise. I’ll show you how, but you have to do it.

Through my experience, I have been most inspired by the teachings of Caroline Emery, Paul Ellison and Francois Rabbath, and I use their material in my own teaching.

My students have consistently achieved very strong results at ABRSM exams, several of them have been accepted into specialist music schools, and I have ex-alumni at conservatoires in London, at Oxford and Cambridge universities, and now performing to great acclaim in the profession.

Lessons cost £50 per hour and take place at my light, airy home studio near Hemel Hempstead station – HP30DZ. I have all the equipment you need and it’s a lovely space for concentrating. I find that for most students up to about grade 5, one half-hour lesson per week is the right amount
